从白鲸到馋之迷航/ 李亭葳/From Moby Dick to La navigation enchantée /Tingwei Li
“Moby-Dick, lifebelt”and “Moby-Dick, waves” was made from the perspective of the Lifebuoy- an outsider , or an observer, and I was not one of the groups. The Lifebuoy looks at the entertainment and security that humans created on the cruises. The “comfort zone" in social entertainmentis pointing to"alienation" in the consumption behavior of capitalism.
Lifebuoy symbolizes the safety of life-saving, swimming pool stands forthe safe artificial seawater. During the voyage of a luxury cruise, the swimming pool and surfing space are arranged on the deck. In contrast with theocean that is full of destiny sense and vitality outside the ship people on thecruise ship amuse themselves in the customary consuming way, they are conquering, recreating and enjoying the sea. In the pretense of collective security existing the subtle individual loneliness and unease.
In the novel “Moby Dick”, the white whale, whom was arrested from beginning to end, has become the target. Thebeluga in various roles from the people on the ship seems to be a mysteriousforce that cannot be conquered. They are the incarnation of human evil and alsothe target of their desire for profit. Thus the consumption behavior of peopleon board and blind maritime leisure becomes a contrast whaling era form ahistorical dialogue.
On a dangerous seacoast where marine accidents often occur, itcould becalled“馋(greedy).” Twenty years ago, more than 300 people were shipwrecked inmy hometown, who disappeared into the sea without a trace. It occurred to me in 2019 as “I” was on the same ferry route, being anxious for that similar unsuccessful rescue attempt.
The lost family members in my life who were kept in my sketchbook have told me about the tragic accident.
Actually the navigationis not dangerous, just asthe seagulls inreality do not attack humans, they just desireto survive. It's not much to be particular about fragmentedself-identification. Sociallyrelated passion results in a panic terror among groups. The craving andconfirmation of existence is "馋".
"馋" focus on the theme about history, family memory, and identity. As a member of society, “I”recall the catastrophic events in childhooddrawings. The three monologues in the film is basedon the perspective of seabirds, how they look at the catastrophe and the human issues. (speech is also unrecognizable non-human language).
The “1124 shipwreck” in 1999 was actually a tragedy caused by human factors. We could just trace it back to unprepared emergency treatments. The fear and anxiety were just as noone knows why Hitchcock's birds have attacked humans.
“The Birds" is the most horrible film I’ve seen before the age of ten. It completely coincides with my imagination to catastrophe and tragedy. The clipstaken from the movie have echoed the many previous navigations that wereattacked by panicand anxiety.
According to 《Leviathan》, "fear", as a result of passionate self-movement, is different from ordinary passion. In 《Leviathan》, fear is either a origin of superstition, or the origin of true religion, or a description of people's inner feelings in mass social movements. The third person is the only passion that is related to sociality, panique terror, means fear that appears everywhere, or also "phobia".
The concept of "at risk" and "adventure" is different. An "adventure" is the subject of active which can be able to achieve a certain degree of control environment; on the contrary, the concept of "at risk" designated people to a passive and dependent role, it is no longer care about what you have done, but care about who you are - to admit powerlessness, at least to feel powerless when danger comes . Gradually, someone is described as "at risk", is regarded as exist in a eternal fragile state .
